Master Mathna began his training in the Martial Arts in 1975 under Grandmaster Fuzy. The headquarters school in Lorain was only eight months old, so Master Mathna was part of the original group that trained in the cold of the gas freeze and took part in the Wednesday night "Free for All" with the Troglodytes. At the time he was arriving, Sensei Herrington was leaving to re-open the 408 High Street School. (see history).

As did all that eventually achieve Black Belt, Ed quickly made the school home. He attended classes every day along with every tournament, every seminar, and every demonstration. Master Mathna will be the first to tell you that the school has had a profound effect upon him in his development as a Martial Artist, a businessman and an individual.

As of January 1, 2000, Master Mathna has settled in Arizona. Still he continues to be involved with the Association and meet requirements while teaching at his club’s dojo, and making regular trips back to Ohio to train and attend tournaments. He is a member of the Board, and "Master At Large" for American Martial Arts Training Centers, was a member of the professional Demo Team Kicks, and was inducted into the International Karate and Kickboxing Hall of Fame June 28, 1998.
